We had WHAT for breakfast?

Our day began early as Woody and I both woke up around 6 a.m. He went out and found two English newspapers and a cup of coffee and I was able to get on the computer and check e-mails.

We began our journey early - about 7:45 a.m. Our first encounter not far from the hotel was another reminder of what a safe city we are in. This schoolgirl could not have been any older than Emma, and she was navigating the streets by herself.

The first struggle of the day became how in the world to buy four tickets on the metro train. The very nice lady from Britain told us how to use the machine. Unfortunately, feeble minded Mama couldn't follow her directions after she had gotten her ticket and left. Fortunately a very nice young Japanese man hit the "call" button for us and an attendant came out and got us going on our way.

Here's a shot from Emma's eye on the train.

That would be Woody with the Life is Good shirt on.

hello Kitty

How much per kilogram???

Ellie trying to get the heck out of Dodge. She wanted no part of all the confusion. These guys int he blue carts drove 25 kph through the streets carrying blocks of ice with fish on the back.

Film crew who caught us in two different places. Wish we knew what channel we were on!!

Squid anyone?

Fish market sold much more than fish. Beautiful fruit.

What good is sushi if you don't have a pretty plate to put it on. Many shops had beautiful earthenware. If only I had room to take it back home!!

Fresh sushi today!!!

High above the street - advertisement for our breakfast spot.

Ellie trying to match the picture with the price and the writing on the menu and the picture of the dish.

Breakfast at 9 a.m. Seven different Tuna dishes.

We also and an assorted plate.

Emma opted for Miso soup only. But WHAT is this in the bowl? Not what she counted on.

Sorry, Robin. They don't have chicken nuggets in Japan.

Another advertisement - this time for Rat-a-tou-e

After the morning at the fish market, we headed over to Ueno Park - very similar to Central Park in NYC. We spent a couple of hours at the Zoo. The highlight was seeing Ling Ling, the giant panda.

Ling Ling from a distance.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought we even spotted Baquita sitting up there. And what in the world was she doing???

The penguins sure were cute too!!

As we left the zoo, we headed back to the metro station to head for the Imperial Palace. The grounds were closed yesterday so we went back for a look today. One the walk to the station, Emma was certain that she has spotted Mr. Boatner.

Japan's version of the Honda Element.

Inside the gate at the Imperial Palace. We finally got the hang of the idea that the umbrellas were not doing a bit of good in the backpack. We blended right in with our multi-colored parasols.

Woody completed this tour while Ellie, Emma and I took a rest on a granite bench. They pulled out the gameboys and acted like Japanese tourists.

Emma always looks at the people here and holds her hands about two inches apart and says, "Mama, they are about this fat." I took this shot on the way back to the hotel. That is why they are "this fat." They walk 100 mph or ride their bikes everywhere they go.

Two businessmen walking home from work.

Tomorrow we head out via train to the sea. Should be another interesting day!!! Stay tuned......
